Luis Jorge Mieses
Luis Jorge Mieses, is living in the Bay Area since 2001. He was born in Peru, where he graduated as Industrial Engineer.
In high school, he had the opportunity to dissect his first bird dabbling in the art of Taxidermy. Since then taxidermy became his life time hobby.
Working for the government in Peru, Mieses had the opportunity to travel to Cuzco frequently. There he met a well known taxidermist, Renato Marín, from whom he learned how to sculpt and make molds for bodies of animals. Later in Lima, he had the opportunity to share experiences with taxidermists from Natural History Museum at San Marcos National University, learning from them how to make latex molds for animals and fossil reproductions.
Since his move to California, Luis Jorge Mieses has devoted his time to sculpture and taxidermy. He has worked over ten years with well known Californian Taxidermist Alex Ramos. Because of the taxidermy work which required molds preparation, shaping and molding parts for mounting different animals, Luis Jorge discovered the fascinating world of sculpture.
Before taking Art classes at Foothill and De Anza Colleges in California, he conducted extesive research and studies on techniques for mold making and sculptures leaning on this ocaccion by the human figure.
Since then, he has devoted to life casting, capturing hands, faces, feet, and various parts of the human body. He works using molds and various materials according to the features of the sculpture to be performed.
Currently he has refined his technique and has reached a professional level in the preparation of life-size sculptures.

Luis Jorge Mieses, vive en el área de la Bahía desde el año 2001. Nació en el Perú, donde se graduó como Ingeniero Industrial.
En secundaria, tuvo la oportunidad de montar su primera ave, incursionando así en el arte de la taxidermia. Desde ese momento la taxidermia se convirtió en una de sus principales aficiones.
Trabajando para la Región Inca, Luis Jorge tuvo la oportunidad de viajar al Cuzco con mucha frecuencia. Allí conoció al prominente taxidermista Renato Marín, de quien aprendió cómo esculpir y hacer moldes para cuerpos de animales. Posteriormente, en Lima, tuvo la oportunidad de compartir experiencias con taxidermistas del Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, relacionadas a la utilización de moldes de latex para la reproducción de animales y fósiles.
Desde que llegó a California, Luis Jorge se ha dedicado a la escultura y la taxidermia. Ha trabajado, por más de 10 años, con el renombrado taxidermista Californiano Alex Ramos. Gracias al trabajo de taxidermia, el cual requería preparación, tallado y moldeado de piezas para montar diferentes animales, Luis Jorge descubrió el fascinante mundo de la escultura.
Antes de tomar clases de arte en Foothill y De Anza Colleges en California, Luis Jorge realizó exhaustivas investigaciones y estudios sobre técnicas para preparar moldes y esculturas, inclinándose en esta ocasión a la figura humana.
Desde entonces se dedica a reproducir la figura humana de tamaño natural, capturando manos, caras, pies y diferentes partes del cuerpo humano. El trabajo lo realiza tomando moldes de alginato o silicona donde vierte diferentes materiales de acuerdo a las características de la escultura a realizar.
Actualmente, ha refinado su técnica y ha alcanzado un nivel profesional en la preparación de esculturas de tamaño natural.
Sus trabajos se encuentran en propiedad de coleccionistas privados.
